Experience Summary
Language competence is my specialty and my educational passion. My credentials include a BA is in Journalism with a Spanish minor and a MAT with both a Spanish concentration and TESOL endorsement. I have over 15 years of experience teaching both ESL and Spanish to students aging from 7 years old through adult. I had the privilege of studying and teaching abroad in Colombia, Mexico and Spain, which instilled in me a passion for learning and creating multicultural awareness through language fundamentals. I delight in instructing students from various backgrounds and language levels, and use a variety of activities and technologies to engage students in language learning.
Teaching Style
I believe in a communicative, student-centered teaching approach. In my classes I develop creative, hands-on curriculum materials that reach every student’s learning style and ability. I incorporate a variety of methods to accommodate students via visual, audio, tactile and kinesthetic methods. I also endeavor to guide my second language students toward comprehension, retaining language concepts, and taking increased responsibility for learning by providing topics of individual interest and using authentic materials. My goal is to foster and maintain an open, honest, communicative and supportive environment in which each student feels safe, secure, special and appropriately challenged.
My Hobbies
With an adopted son from Colombia, I live, eat and breath English as a Second Language. I'm an avid reader, like to write, love to swim and relish my travel adventures. My other passions include music and missions. I'm a church violist and vocalist, and am involved in various missionary outreaches.
