Experience Summary
I have been a professional organic chemist for more than 30 years, specializing in consumer products, coatings, adhesives and foundry products.
I have also been a business owner formulating and manufacturing selling environmentally friendly cleaning products. My background and expertise is in the area of general and organic chemistry and I have been a teaching assistant in these areas.
My main interest in tutoring is to give some of my knowledge and experience to the up and coming students and scientists of the next generation. I would also like to give other students a deeper appreciation for chemistry as a science and a part of everyday life. When tutoring I like to draw examples form my professional career. This is always more interesting than just citing numbers and facts.
Teaching Style
My approach to tutoring is to work with the students to learn how to apply new concepts and information to problem solving. Chemistry is a science where this kind of concept building is key to progressing from one concept to the next. I don't regurgitate facts and figures. I assist the student to use the information at hand to do problem solving and not do the work for them and give them the answer.
