Experience Summary
I graduated from Fitchburg State University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in English and Professional Writing. I went on to become a staff writer for the Lowell Sun, a daily print publication in Lowell, Massachusetts. When I was laid off due to budget cuts, I wrote freelance for several entertainment and political publications. I also worked for an independent publishing company as a manuscript reviewer for a year. After deciding to move into education, I passed the Reading, Writing, and English Secondary Education M.T.E.Ls and received my Preliminary Teaching License. I have now completed my S.E.I certification course and have been working as a writing coach in Boston while finishing my Masters.I have also been writing and publishing works of fiction for the last three years.
Teaching Style
I believe in identifying where a student lies on the subject he/she is studying before going further. The advantage of one on one tutoring compared to classroom is that the lesson can be based around where the student’s strengths and weaknesses are rather than a blanket method.
I also believe that the skills used in English can be best practiced and analyzed through writing rather than worksheets and tests. Therefore, I believe in having the student write on a variety of subjects and working through these pieces to show where they can improve.
