About Me

Experience Summary

Ever since 2005 I have been focused on learning new languages and traveling. It all began in 2005 when I left as a Rotary Exchange Student to live with a host family in Italy. I did not speak a word of Italian but by the time I came home a year later I was fluent. Then I decided to get my Bachelors degree in Italy in Language Mediation and Cultures, I majored in Spanish and Russian, and all of my classes and coursework was in Italian. For my fourth year of college in Italy I won a scholarship to study in Spain for a year and this is when I mastered Spanish. While in Europe for college I was a private English tutor for four years. With my background in learning languages and tutoring, I feel that I would be a great and fun tutor!

Teaching Style

I think it is important to touch on many different aspects of a language when learning it. Listening and speaking in order to put into practice the grammar and vocabulary one has learned is key. It would be best to follow the structure of a book so that the student has something to reflect back on the keep them on track, however if a student doesn't want to use a book, note taking will be sufficient. Also watching movies or tv shows in the language that one is studying will help to improve listening comprehension.

My Hobbies

I like going out a lot, seeing the world, learning about new cultures, getting involved in the community and meeting new people. While I lived in Italy I learned a lot about cooking and now it is something that I really enjoy. I love trying new things whether it be food, a dance or learning a new language!

Subject Commentary

Italian This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I learned Italian by immersing myself in the language; I lived in Italy for four years total. For my first year in Italy I lived with a host family, I ended up loving it so much that I decided to go to college in Italy and it is there where I got my bachelors degree in languages. I have excellent pronunciation and am fluent and would be a wonderful teacher since I know what it takes to learn Italian starting from zero!
Spanish This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I am fluent in Spanish and feel that I would be a wonderful teacher for anyone looking to learn the language. I studied Spanish for over a decade, and also lived in Salamanca, Spain for a year. It was this year where I mastered the language and grew to learn about its rich culture.
