Experience Summary
I graduated with honors with degrees in history and economics from the University of Texas at Austin. I am an obsessive student of history, specializing in the history of the British Empire in the 19th century, with a 70 page thesis on the subject that I am in the process of getting published. As of June 2013 I will have just returned from a full year in Egypt studying Arabic after four years of studying Arabic in Austin, including a summer in Morocco, as part of a Defense Department program for critical language study. I will have achieved advanced proficiency by U.S. government standards, and will be able to teach both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic. During July of 2013 I will most likely be teaching Arabic part time at the University of Texas to undergraduate students of Arabic, and have had plenty of experience tutoring peers.
Teaching Style
I can be formal, especially with younger students, but am accustomed to tutoring my peers in a relatively informal setting.
My Hobbies
When I am not reading, writing and researching, I try to get outside. I am an avid camper and backpacker, like to run and compete in endurance races, and have gotten into mixed martial arts in recent years (I am really, really bad at that). Also enjoy cooking.
