About Me

Experience Summary

It is with great pleasure, pride, and interest that I am applying for an opportunity to interview for your need of Mathematics Tutor. I am extremely confident that my previous and ongoing work in Grades K-12 and beyond Data Driven Curriculum and Differentiated Instructional design, combined with my abilities in presenting effective instruction; growing knowledge and use of Project-Based, Problem-Based, and Brain-Based Lifelong Learning Activities; demonstration of strong interpersonal skills; experience with state assessment data, formative assessments, meaningful local assessments, program evaluation, and rubric development; action planning for change; unbridled enthusiasm; tenacious work ethic; and ten plus years of Professional Educating experience would be great assets to fulfilling the goals you have for your child. I have many glorious opportunities throughout my career to contribute to this educational evolution. Most of my expertise resides in Middle School Mathematics as I started the first six years of my teaching career at the New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School as the only Seventh and Eighth Grade Mathematics Teacher. I was in soul charge of writing the Math 7 and Math 8 Curriculums, especially when the new 2005 Mathematics Core Curriculum was instituted. The small number of professional support never effected my determination, enthusiasm, and motivation towards providing all Lifelong Learners I was responsible to educate with a positive Lifelong Learning environment towards Character and Mathematics education. Instead it drove my colleagues and I to work harder, trust our god given gifts, and utilize every possible resource available to ensure the success of young Lifelong Learners. I was also privileged to be a Mathematics and Character Education Teacher for the Saint Anne Institute. Most of the Mathematics I was teaching was at a Middle School level. Working with at-risk, institutionalized young females in the Intensive Management Needs Unit was a very rewarding experience. This privilege had an incredibly positive impact on my teaching values, curriculum and instructional design, and implementation. My behavior management strategies especially improved and evolved greatly through the use of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention methods. I also spent a unique six month period at the Glenmont Job Corps Academy as their GED Mathematics Instructor. My chief responsibility was to develop and provide appropriate small group and individualized instruction to 16-26 year old at-risk learners as they prepare to excel on the GED Test. The Mathematics Section of the GED targets knowledge of Middle Level Mathematics at a High School reading level. In collaboration with my fellow GED Instructors, TABE Instructors, Trade Instructors, Social Development Counselors, and Career Education Administration, many individuals were able to receive their GED. In addition, hundreds of the underprivileged learners were provided with great opportunities to be successful personally and professionally outside the residential Academy upon Graduation during my tenure. In addition to teaching within a Job Corps Academy, School Districts, and a Private Institution, I have accepted additional educational and leadership roles throughout my career. Three years ago, I started a private tutoring service and 33 months ago, I collaborated with D and T Tutoring Service. I’ve had the grand privilege of mentoring many young adolescents and adults in Mathematics ranging from Third Grade Mathematics to College Level Mathematics, as well as SAT Prep for the Math Section of the SAT and the GED. A couple of the individuals I have been mentoring are courageously persevering through learning disabilities, one of which with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Through my unique Coaching and Mentoring style of Mathematics individualized instruction, these inspiring Lifelong Learners have built a greater understanding of the Mathematics. These rewarding experiences have added to my immense potential and evolution to deliver group and individualized instruction. My most recent Professional Teaching experiences reside in urban settings and Guest Teaching at various Capital Region and Northern New York Schools. I spent the 2011-2012 School year teaching Integrated Algebra Summer School for the City School District of Albany, and Sixth Grade and AIS Grades 5-8 Mathematics for the Albany Prep Charter Middle School. During the 2010-2011 School year, I taught Seventh Grade Mathematics at Schenectady High School in a Summer School capacity, a two month tenure at the Schenectady High School in a co-teaching role in a Special Education classroom, and teaching Credit Recovery Mathematics Courses using Apex Learning Software for Albany High School. These unique teaching placements and responsibilities have allowed me to network with many wonderful teaching professionals and Lifelong Learners. The access and experience I have gained has evolved my knowledge and ability of educating Lifelong Learners exponentially. As a Professional Educator that has had many wonderful teaching privileges this millennium, motivating and inspiring Lifelong Learners to give 110% effort and challenge their own personal limits has always remained constant. By providing instruction that expands upon previous knowledge and exploring fresh, uncharted territory, students increase their basis and zest for learning. The goals and expectations jointly set of all Lifelong Learners have always been reasonable and high, therefore during the course of the school year, the possession of the realization that they can achieve any goal set and overcome any present and future challenge comes to fruition. This is one of the many valuable lessons outside of Mathematics I have taught to individuals of all ages that transcends the classroom into their real world. I am very excited about the prospect of formally discussing how my attitude, expertise, and enthusiastic personality could best meet and fit the needs of your child! I strongly feel that the experiences and skill sets I have discussed make me an excellent candidate for this unique and exciting opportunity. Thank you very much for your time, consideration, and efforts and best of luck in your search for the absolute best Mathematics Tutor for your child! Respectfully, Corey R. Toles

Teaching Style

Education is essential to establishing a strong foundation on which growth of knowledge and understanding is based. In a media-driven society, absence of effective education meeting the needs of the 21st century Lifelong Learner allows opportunities for ignorance to take shape and develop. If not combated with innovation and passion from its community of educators, negative repercussions in our schools and to society can result. Therefore, I always aim to and succeed in providing a stimulating Lifelong Learning environment that encourages students to further develop the skills and knowledge necessary to reach their full potential and utilize innovative resources and technology. Fostering confidence through motivation and inspiration is crucial to these realizations. As a Professional Educator, an eclectic teaching style is needed to breed success in the Lifelong Learning environment. While I design each lesson with focus and structure, my instructional methodologies are differentiated to incorporate diverse activities and content that engages and draws student interest using mass media and tangible resources. By acknowledging various learning styles and multiple intelligences of Lifelong Learners merged with the understanding adolescent behaviors, an effective rapport is established with students and a circle of trust and respect is maintained. These qualities also assist in providing direction towards realizing individual and shared goals and objectives. When such challenges do present themselves, I have succeeded in providing motivation, inspiration, and valuable problem-solving strategies towards the achievement of excellence. Hence I bring an eclectic teaching and coaching style through direct and differentiated instruction to the table.
