Experience Summary
I taught in the public school system for twenty-four and a half years. During that time I held various positions. I have taught self-contained behavior students and learning disabled resource classes. As a teacher, I provided individualized instruction in the areas of reading, writing, and math to students identified as exceptional. I also conducted and participated in parent meetings. I also performed duties such as, writing Individualized Education Plans, serving in the capacity of liaison between student and regular teacher, and serving on the school-based committee to determine the educational needs of students. As an Assessment Consultant, my duties were to facilitate the goals, objectives, and expectations associated with the NC Statewide Testing Program; Assist in the administration, scoring and disaggregation of school test data. Last year and part of the summer, I worked on the community college campus as an I-PASS Tutor in reading and writing. I also administered the Townsend Press Reading Program. I am currently working on the community college level in the Compensatory Education Program. I teach math to learning disable adults. I also attended the Accountability Conferences each year sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Instruction. I also conducted training workshops on ethical testing, testing modifications, and testing procedures. Presently, I volunteer with a youth organization as a college career planner/advisor. I tutored individually on an as need basis for students in my neighborhood.
Teaching Style
I am very patient because learning is a process. I use hands-on activities as well as paper- pencil. I use pre and post test to determine the student's academic strengths and weaknesses.

Elementary Reading |

I have taught reading in the elementary and middle schools. Students need to comprehend or understand what they read. I teach strategies to assist the learner in understanding information read. Involved in learning to read is developing vocabulary, also identifying main idea/details and other skills essential to becoming a proficient reader. |
Special Education |

I am cerified in the state of North Carolina to teach learning disabled and mentally disabled students. I have a Master's degree in Special Education. I taught students with learning disabilities in the public school system. I am currently retired working with learning disabled adults. |
