Experience Summary
I first started teaching ESL as a volunteer teacher in my local community in January of 2011. My students were all Spanish-speaking adults. I absolutely loved it! In February on 2012, I completed a CELTA course and became certified to teach adult English learners. I worked for EC Boston from April to October of 2012. My students came from many different countries and spoke so many different languages. I absolutely loved sharing my language and my culture with them, and, in return, they taught me a little bit about themselves. I moved back to the Texas area mid-October to be closer to family and began searching for opportunities to teach ESL again right away!
Teaching Style
I am trained in the communicative school, so naturally I put a great emphasis on speaking and writing. However, I know each student learns a little differently, and some students are more comfortable doing book exercises. I try to keep things fun and current, and a lot of the classes I planned in Boston integrated local events and current news stories to keep things relevant.
My Hobbies
I love reading, cooking (aka flipping through Food Network magazines like I know what I'm doing), and rock climbing! I like to be outside when I can, so it's fortunate for me that Texas weather is usually so agreeable.
