Experience Summary
My experience spans both the ivory tower and the world of business and industry. I have observed that "TEACHING" is often associated with the ideas of "PRESENTATION" and "ACADEMIC ENTERTAINMENT". Honestly, for many students it is comforting, soothing, and safe to sit in a chair and listen to an "ADULT" sing to them in the language of Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Java, etc. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT APPROACH.
Nevertheless, I too have sung to many students in the language of General Chemistry at the Junior College Level. For over 5 years, I have tutored and taught students at the university and high school level.
My adventures in business and industry have included 5+ years Software/Chemical Process Development.
Software design projects have been developed using "C" & Embedded VxWorks RTOS, C++, JAVA, PHP, VB.Net, FORTRAN, and yes..... even APL. If you are still curious, we can chat about the messy business of catalyst development, Kraft liquor, machining coolant recycling, oxidation-reduction of phenol waste with Fenton's reagent, the magic of DAF, and why its easier to design a shell and tube heat exchanger on the computer. :)
Teaching Style
My passion is helping YOU attain your academic goals. Helping you grow sustainable LEARNING skills, SELF-DISCOVERY skills, and LIFE-SURVIVAL skills through the tutoring experience is my primary concern.
My best students are un-cool with authority, rebellious, edgy, skeptical, and FULL of curiosity.
1) Diagnose the problem - determine current strengths and weaknesses.
2) Given course syllabus and step 1 and current grades in class, develop a plan of improvement and goal.
3) Work on remedial skills development.
4) Next work on understanding new concepts to keep student current in lecture material.
5) Practice, practice, practice to improve Exam performance.
6) Re-evaluate.

NOTE: Homework, assignments, projects, and computer programs are learning tools designed to help students understand new concepts and aid LEARNING. The JOY in tutoring is helping students to understand and figure out those daunting assignments; actually seeing the "LIGHT BULB" turn ON. :) As policy, I do NOT support academic misconduct - aka - I WILL NOT COMPLETE YOUR ASSIGNMENT WHICH IS DUE TOMORROW. I WILL NOT TAKE YOUR EXAM FOR YOU. PLEASE ASK FOR HELP EARLY IN THE SEMESTER TO AVOID UNNECESSARY ACADEMIC STRESS. :)
