Experience Summary
I am a recent print & multimedia journalism graduate from Emerson College in Boston, Mass. I moved to Austin, Texas about a month ago.
I was born in Venezuela and left to attend college in the U.S. I grew up in a politically, socially and economically unstable country, which inspired me to become a journalist in order to provide a necessary public service to my community. I finally acquired my bachelor's degree in print & multimedia journalism this May.
I am well trained in U.S. government and politics, impact journalism, beat reporting, journalism law and ethics, environmental and music reporting, backpack journalism, global journalism, news editing and design, among others. My skills include, but are not limited to, writing and editing, interactive news producing, video and audio shooting and editing, layout design, and social media. In terms of software, I use InDesign, Final Cut Pro 7 and X, Audacity, Photoshop and Flash.
My experiences in the newsroom involve online reporting and web producing, working under high stress situations and breaking news scenarios. I currently write for Eco News Network (www.econewsnetwork.org), an online based publication that covers everything from food, wellness, design, celebrities, to water, air and electricity, through an environmental lense. I have been in charge of creating and publishing ENN’s first eMagazine, which will be published November 1st.
I speak five languages, which allows me to communicate with people from different walks of life. I take pride in creativity, responsibility, hard work, leadership and organization.
I may be reached by email (alegyarfas@gmail.com).
Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to speaking with you soon.
