Experience Summary
I am a freelance cinematographer, and I have lenses several documentaries, music videos, independent feature films and web videos. Believe it or not, much of the work that I have done involves education and children. I shot the feature documentary "A Lovely Day," which documents an after school Rap therapy class at Oakland High School. I have also traveled to many places throughout the world, working on collaborative films with children. In 2006, I worked on the collective film "The Wind and the Water" in remote Panama, in which we taught teenage kids how to shoot and edit video, and together we made a feature film. The film ended up playing at Sundance in 2008. I also made a film with refugee children in India, in which we had acting classes and workshops, which were the first classes for the children ever to take part of.
I enjoy teaching and tutoring children, and I have a strong background in English, History, Math, and Computers. From my travels, I speak intermediate Spanish, and if a student is looking to learn English as a Second Language, I would love to help them and in turn, learn Spanish better myself.
Teaching Style
If I come across a roadblock while teaching a student, rather than go over and over and over the same thing, I look for a students strong point to try to make the material more attainable. I myself have two children, one of which has a neurological disorder. Working one on one with him has helped him immensely move forward with mental blocks. When I see that he is stuck, I move on and work on his strong points to gain confidence. We then continue to go back and cover areas which are problematic.
