Experience Summary
I spent the last year teaching English in China. I have experience teaching ESOL, and am experienced dealing learners of English of a second language. I studied Chinese during my stint there and am willing and able to tutor beginning students of the Chinese language who want to develop functional skills in Mandarin for career or personal development. I was an A-student during my time in college and often was the leader of study groups and offered personal tutoring to students struggling in my biblical Hebrew class. I served as a teacher's assistant for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. I worked in a biochemistry lab for one summer during my undergraduate career.
Teaching Style
I believe in adapting the teaching style to suit the student's learning style. Teaching English in China, I adopted a practical stance, teaching useful words and grammar and reinforced their reading lessons. The student's learning goals and reason for seeking tutoring should dictate the teaching style, however.
My Hobbies
Studying linguistics, language, and philosophy. Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai. Reading.
Other Comments
I am supposed to have a TEFL certificate since I have completed my training and a year of teaching English, however my issuing organization has not mailed it to me yet. I have a great passion for language and that is the area I believe I am best suited to tutoring in; however I am experienced in numerous fields.
