Experience Summary
I am a recent graduate of the education program at Bowling Green State University and I have had a variety of experiences with children of all ages and abilities in and out of the classroom. I completed an 8 week field placement at Robinson Elementary in Toledo, OH where I assisted the teacher in a self-contained seventh and eighth grade classroom. I taught lessons in the areas of social studies, math and reading. I completed my student teaching placement at Elmwood Middle School in a 6th grade resource room. I taught several math units in this classroom as well as participated in an inclusion math co-teaching situation. I also taught Language arts in the resource room. Besides these two experiences I have participated in many reading intervention programs in several elementary schools. My favorite subjects to teach are reading and math. I currently work at a day care with children ages six weeks to ten years old. My responsibilities there include providing care for children of all ages, implementing behavior management techniques, and organizing enjoyable activities. I am very comfortable working in any age level. Camp Adventure is a program that I have been involved in four almost four years and this program allows me to travel all over the world and set up summer camps for children that live on military bases. Other counselors and I programmed and implemented ten weeks of camp each summer. I have been to Japan, Germany, and Hawaii through this program and it has allowed me to experiences other cultures that I otherwise would of had the opportunity to see. I have spent much of my life giving my support to children. I think it is important that children experience a learning environment that will give the academic skills and emotional growth to become successful citizens of society.
Teaching Style
I like to use a mix of direct instruction and self-guided learning in my teaching. I use a variety of hands on manipulatives and I also like to get students up and moving around.
