While I was studying in Shanghai International Studies University, I was selected to be a broadcaster of campus radio station of my university because my Chinese pronunciation was standard and there was no accent in my pronunciation.
In China I also had a test by Mandarin Training and Testing Authority and got an officially recognized certificate showing my mandarin score is 90.5 , which is good enough to be a broadcaster .
After I got my bachelor’s degree and graduated in 2000 from the Department of Journalism and Communication in Shanghai International Studies University , one of the most prestigious universities in China , I had been a professional teacher for 11 years until I came to America last December.
In my 11-year career of teaching , I taught some foreign learners and helped them successfully fulfill their plan of passing HSK, the Chinese Proficiency Test , a national standardized test to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers.
Now in Florida , I have been teaching a few American students and businessmen since I got a valid Social Security number and Employment Authorization Card issued by USA .
Teaching Style
My students consist of two kinds: amateurs such as children, university students and adults; business people for whom speaking Chinese is a must for their business.
Before I begin teaching, I need to know the learner’s level of Chinese and the purpose of learning Chinese.
Then I provide each learner with a personalized course to meet the diverse need of the diverse learner .
I use a systematic approach to help learners master the necessary points of Chinese language .
In order to see how much I have taught and whether the learners have achieved their purpose, I also urge the learners to take one of the following three tests and they all pass the test successfully.
The HSK is an international standardized exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. It assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.
The YCT is an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency. It assesses young foreign students' abilities to use Chinese in their daily and academic lives.
The BCT, Business Chinese Test, is a state-level standardized test designed to assess the Chinese proficiency of non-native speakers engaged in business activities.
