Other Comments
Tutoring is different than teaching. Even though during my classroom, I put extra effort in creating student-centered atmosphere, there were students left out anyway. In tutoring, I made sure the student was given as much attention as possible. S/he would be given time to speak, to have fun and to practice the use of Mandarin language. The teacher would be no more than a facilitator while the kid is the leading character in tutoring sessions. I was always amazed at how fast a kid improved himself/herself in tutoring and the growing confidence that would benefited him or her in other subjects as well. I tutored students from 2nd grade to senior, and they are all different. Before a tutoring session, I put a lot of time in communication with parents and learners about methods, goals and assessments. I made sure I understood the needs and the learner understood me.
