Experience Summary
Drawing has been a private joy in my life. I have not used such a talent to support myself financially nor have I continued my education in drawing (i.e.) computer graphics, etc. etc. I believe such talent is first to be used for personal enjoyment before marketability. Drawing is to be used for the revelation of one's own vision of the world and people and through imagination beyond either. Therefore, the only experience I have is personal. After being honorably discharged from the Navy I did take an Art Class at the local community college (Del Mar, Corpus Christi, Tx.). I did learn certain skills that did advance my drawing ability and the use of other mediums (i.e.) quill pen and ink, charcoal, and pastels. I also learned to use negative space to emphasize depth and light. For my final exam during my semester at Del Mar was in two phases. First was to do a self portrait using calipers for measurements, pencil, and pastels. Second was to recreate a work for a classic artist. I chose Albrecht Duer, a painter and wood engraver who is most famous for his drawing of the "praying hands." I decided to do his Madonna and child with quill and ink. Although these works were my exams, the joy of drawing took such pressure away from me and I was able to do them in peace and confidence. My art instructor passed both my works with high marks (A+). But that really didn't matter to me. I just loved creating and learning.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is mostly lecture. However, I always believe what works best is what they taught me in the Navy, that in order to truly learn how to do something then you must "see one, do one, and teach one." In other words, you must see how one does it, do it yourself, and then teach someone else.
My Hobbies
My main hobby is drawing, of course. My other hobbies are reading, listening to music, watching movies, walking,
