Experience Summary
I taught for 3 years as a Hearing Itinerant Teacher in Illinois. My students ranged from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. I also taught for 1 year as a Special Education teacher in New Jersey. I taught 7th and 8th grade math. I have recently moved to Ohio and have received an Ohio Intervention Specialist and Hearing Itinerant Teaching License. My studies at Illinois State allow me to be highly qualified in Language Arts. I have also passed the Middle School Math Praxis test which makes me highly qualified in middle school math. I also have experience through camps and work as an ABA Therapist (Applied Behavior Analysis) with people who have autism, cerebral palsy, ADHD, MR, and ED.
Teaching Style
I use Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) to establish motivation and classroom management. This includes breaks, class store, team competitions etc. My teaching philosophy is to meet students at their current level and push them to the next level to get them caught up with their peers. I assess students frequently to ensure they are making progress in their targeted area. As a tutor I will collaborate with school teachers and parents to ensure I am covering the same information the child is learning at school.
My Hobbies
I run everyday to exercise and I enjoy reading and playing with my 2 year old daughter.
Other Comments
I have a high frequency hearing loss and have worn hearing aids in both ears since age 2. I use myself as a model for students who have disabilities to see how to appropriately advocate for themselves and their needs.
