About Me

Experience Summary

I have been teaching now for a total of four years. However, I have been working in the educational field for eight years. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as a library clerk. Also, I have experience as a tutor. I tutored for two years in an after-school program at a local church in my community. Currently, I am a special education teacher at Frederick Law Olmsted Academy North in Louisville, Kentucky. I mainly teach sixth grade language arts classes. My skills and knowledge of how to effectively educate students have continued to improve over the years. The summative evaluations I have received each year as a teacher have been positive. Administrators at my school often communicate to me that they are appreciative of the manner in which I interact with my students. They especially like the way I always maintain a positive attitude and a calm demeanor with my students. I feel that it’s important to be a positive role model for all students. Mainly my desire to become a teacher stemmed from me being a parent of a son who struggled with reading as a child. Because he was unable to read as well as his peers in school, he would often become frustrated and want to give up. I consistently worked with him to help him improve his reading skills. I used phonics and taught him additional reading strategies to help him. While working as a library clerk, I had the opportunity to interact with students more frequently which was when I decided teaching is something I really wanted to do. I decided that I wanted to participate in making a difference in the lives of children. I developed a strong determination to help those students who felt like they could not be successful because of their learning disabilities which is why I specifically chose to teach special needs students.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is to make sure my teaching is inclusive so that every child can actively participate in the learning experience. Differentiation is an important method I use to help those students who struggle in certain areas.

My Hobbies

My hobbies include reading and baking.

Other Comments

My desire as a teacher is to see every child confident about their ability to learn and being successful.
