Experience Summary
I'm a recent graduate from Brown University, with experience tutoring at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Math and Biology are my favorite things to teach--I love the subject matter and I love to see it "click" with students.
In math, I received an 800 score on the SAT, and a score of 5 on each the Calculus AB and BC exams. I also tutored algebra as a high school student. I'm currently studying up on everything from Trig to Calculus II so that I can take a Multivariable Calculus class, so the material is fresh! I'm happy to tutor any student at the middle-school or high-school level.
Biology was my undergraduate major, and is one of my biggest passions. My last semester in college, I was a Teaching Assistant for the Introductory Ecology class at Brown, leading discussion groups of about 15 students, and meeting with students one-on-one to review material. I'm well-versed on the basics, as well as genetics, environmental science, and ecology.
Teaching Style
If a student has interest and confidence, she or he can learn anything! I am enthusiastic about what I teach, and I let students take the lead in solving problems to build independent skills and confidence. I am also a firm believer in understanding HOW things work, not just THAT they work--I combine problem-solving strategies with an understanding of why those strategies make sense.
My Hobbies
I love to hike, do yoga, play the piano, and bake things--pies and cookies are my favorites!
Other Comments
In addition to tutoring sessions, I am happy to provide "on-call" homework help via e-mail for my students at no extra cost.
