Experience Summary
I have a total of close to 2 years experience as a TESOL instructor, tutor and teacher. I spent 2002-2003 in Poland teaching English to Polish students of all ages, adapting lesson plans to tailor to each age group, learning style and subject matter. Most of the teaching centered around English language, American culture and history.
I graduated successfully with high scores from the Defense Langauge Institute Basic Chinese Course for the US Army in April 2010. This course was highly intensive, including 30 hours a week of instruction in language and culture by native speakers from China and Taiwan.
I spent a total of about 1 year from 2007 to 2008 tutoring and teaching in MD and DC Public schools. I tutored in Math and Reading and taught various subjects as a substitute teacher including History, Biology and French.
Teaching Style
I like to incorporate activities and active learning techniques into my lessons. I like to engage the class to participate as a group, however I realize this style may not always work. I am used to teaching different learning styles, and I am willing to adapt to all kinds of learners.
