Experience Summary
My teaching experience includes teaching high school science for fifteen years in the states of Florida and Georgia. Teaching classes of biology, botany, physical science, earth science and marine science with my main focus on biology. In the past five years I have taught honors biology, IB and PreIB (International Baccalaureate diploma program) students. I have also taught biology students online for three years having to tutor them online on some of the tougher biological concepts. My success as a tutor is a result of communication, goal setting, listening, making the subject more personable, providing resources, and evaluation.
Teaching Style
My tutoring style is friendly and approachable. For short term revision, one of my major priorities is to help pupils create a 'road map' enabling them to better assess the challenges presented by their exams. Where exam performance has been compromised by low self-esteem, my aim is to counter pupils‘ preconceptions about their academic limitations by identifying and building upon their distinctive strengths. Especially where more time is available, I work to develop in pupils a curiosity which helps them get beyond the often dreary demands of their textbooks and achieve a greater degree of imaginative and critical independence.
