Experience Summary
I initially got my start as an English tutor for refugees in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area in 2002. I then moved to China where I worked as an English teacher in for eight years returning to the US in 2011. My experiences ranges from university freshmen English majors up through non-English major PhD students. I have also taught in a community English program in China in which my students ranged from age 12 through 52. While the majority of my experience is in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing classes, I have also taught such content courses as debate, newspapers, American history and economics. For all of my classes I have written and prepared all of my own lesson plans. Additionally, I tutored my own students as needed as well as prepared students for speaking competitions and served as a judge for many such contests.
Teaching Style
The majority of my experience lies in classroom settings of 20-35 students. Although, I thoroughly enjoy one-on-one teaching as well. The first step in developing a teaching style for a specific student is to assess their needs and their learning styles. From that, tutoring can be tailored to each students specific needs.
My Hobbies
Cooking, Reading, Learning about Asian culture.
Other Comments
I love teaching and tutoring English as a second language and am looking for opportunities to continue helping others right here in the States!
