Experience Summary
Hello Students and Parents,
I would like to offer my unique skills as a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology who specializes in working with children with developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, down syndrome), learning challenges (e.g., ADD, ADHD, anxiety), and medical diagnoses (e.g., diagnoses affecting sleep, attention, processing speed, school attendance). I have worked with children in their homes, in hospitals, in community clinics, and in schools. I have also worked with many teens and would be happy to tutor those who are older and looking for some extra help. My unique contribution is that, in addition to sharing knowledge and study skills, I am trained to help children regulate difficult emotions like frustration or hopelessness or embarrassment, overcome fears and anxieties, find and maintain motivation, improve self-esteem, and use creative problem solving to maximize their performance.
Teaching Style
Is it difficult to maintain focus while studying? Do you need additional, individualized time to master a concept? Does frustration, anxiety, embarrassment, or hopelessness ever get in the way of you achieving your personal best? If so, I would like to help you achieve your best. Everyone deserves to feel proud and confident about their hard work, and every person can thrive from learning if they have the right tools to help them along. Thanks to my graduate training in clinical psychology, I have the unique ability to coach kids in emotion management, motivation, self-esteem, creative problem solving, and organization while strengthening their academic skills. The best students aren't just "good" students... they are happy, motivated, and confident students. I have a warm, friendly, and energetic personality that earns rapport with highly active, social kids as well as quieter, socially reserved kids. Every child has strengths, and learning about what those strengths are is the key to overcoming a child's weaknesses.
My Hobbies
I enjoy animals, outdoor fun, and interacting with people. Keywords that describe particular interests of mine are: greyhounds, horses, orchestra, New England, scrabble, running, cooking, Twilight & Hunger Games and other all-consuming books, California, kayaking, the beach.
