Experience Summary
I have been an English and Writing tutor since my freshman year of high school. During my last year of undergraduate work at The Ohio State University I was an Academic Mentor for the “Miracle-Gro” Capital Scholars program and helped 35 high school seniors successfully apply and establish admittance into college. I helped construct and edit admissions essays while providing constructive and personal mentoring to each student. I am passionate about writing and continue to pursue it as a hobby and also in my graduate studies at DePaul University. I appreciate and welcome the opportunity to work with young people to help fine tune skills and talents each individual will use in his or her personal and professional endeavors.
I currently am employed as a Graduate Assistant in DePaul University’s College of Education where I edit work on a daily basis. I edit for clarity and a concise meaning. This job fine -tunes my writing skills while allowing me to do meaningful work for faculty members who heavily influence the counseling and education professions.
I believe establishing a relationship with a student is a catalyst for a successful tutoring relationship. Without trust and a positive atmosphere, a student’s true potential will not be fully executed and embraced. My current studies in counseling lay a foundation for me to develop a constructive platform for a student and myself. I believe each individual has the potential to do well academically. It is my goal to create positive relationships with students by creating the necessary variables of trust, motivation, and the continued understanding of specific learning requirements and embracing each student’s unique personality.
Through my past work and tutoring experiences, undergraduate work that was writing-intensive, and current employment and graduate work, I find myself highly qualified for this position. Writing is a passion and I would like nothing more than to extend my excitement and skill set to motivated students willing to learn from a knowledgeable and personable tutor.
