I follow the current Common Core Standards as a certified teacher and can tailor the needs of your child according to their particular age as regards these standards. |
Because of my B.A. in English, I consider myself to be quite experienced in composition. The only reason I would not call myself an expert is because it seems school systems frequently change the types of essays they require students to write, and it is difficult to keep up. For example, it is my underdanding that the "five paragraph essay" is no longer used to assess student writing at the high school level. |
Once I get my first book published, I will be able to call myself an expert in creative writing. Although my poems have been published in several university presses around the country (and I have a first place award for one of them), I think it is rather self serving to call myself an "expert." Creative writing is my favorite hobby, one that enriches my life in countless ways. |
As mentioned earlier, I am a certified Elementary school teacher. Therefore, I'm an expert in all educational matters as regards younger children. |
Students aged 5-7 use phonics quite a bit when learning to read. I begin with the short vowels and words that have one-to-one sound correspondence. Next come words that have the "silent e" because rules usually apply fairly regularly there. After that, we begin to learn words with more complex structures. In the meantime, however, the most common sight or "Dolch" words can be mixed in with the aforementioned because it's impossible for comprehension to take place without them. Young children can and do learn these if given enough exposure. |
The only subject I've ever taught, both in private and public schools, is English. |
I teach language arts every day as a certified teacher with DeKalb County Schools. My current position is as a Kindergarten ESOL teacher; however, I have taught upper grades as well. |
Yes, as mentioned before, I'm a published poet. That does not make me an expert on the subject. I know how to write a sonnet and can show you the various rhyme schemes that pertain to the more classic types of sonnets. There are so many kinds of poems to explore! Many people think free verse is easy because there is no scheme to adhere to; however, this is not the case. If you want to learn about poetry, I can give you the basics. Of course, in college I wrote about poems for a grade and was trained in finding symbolism, meter, etc. Again, these are but fundamental aspects of poetry. The difficulty lies in the fact that poems can be very esoteric. |
I assume the distinction between "writing" and "creative writing" to be the same as that between fiction and non-fiction. Given this, I consider myself to be stronger in creative writing. However, I'm confident in my knowledge of the various types of essays you might be asked to write. I refer to the typical persuasive or narrative essays. |
