Experience Summary
I have my Nebraska Initial Teaching Certificate for 7-12 Language Arts. Within my Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Sciences, I earned my K-12 provisional English as a Second Language endorsement as well as my 7-12 Language Arts endorsement. Starting my college career as an elementary education major and ending it a secondary education major, I have had education related to and experience with teaching students grades 1-12. I currently work with Youth for Christ // Campus Life and I am a certified substitute teacher with Lincoln Public Schools. Subbing now for two years within LPS has given me invaluable experience. My skills in interpersonal communication, classroom management, student interest and motivation, and content comprehension have been refined and strengthened. I believe a well-rounded education is very important which is why I work both in the formal classroom of a school district and in the informal teaching environments of Youth for Christ. I enjoy the variety and have found that I thrive in interactive small group or one-on-one settings.
Teaching Style
By sparking curiosity, asking questions, allowing time to think and investigate for answers, and pointing out clues that will hopefully lead the students to discovering answers, I hope to mentor my students like a creative safari tour guide. The desire to learn and think critically must be instilled in all learning environments. These things are imperative because they are skills needed for life. I want to be a life-long learner; and I want my students to be as well.
My Hobbies
I love being outdoors. I love to be active and healthy so walking, jogging, biking, and homemade cooking are all hobbies. I'm an avid reader. My husband and I like to camp, hike, and kayak together. I'm learning to sew and am excited about all the creative possibilities that await me!
Other Comments
I believe that life is all about relationships. Students need to know that they matter and that they are important. Students need to know that I, as a teacher, care about them. People won’t care what you say if they don’t first know that you care. If students know that I care about them and that they are important, their classroom work and behavior also becomes important to them and thus intrinsically motivated. I want to positively impact students’ lives as I work with them preparing them for their success both in and out of the classroom.
