Experience Summary
I have tutored a wide variety students on many subjects. I am most experienced tutoring high school students for the SAT. I worked with Let's Get Ready, a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing high school students for the SAT and their college search process. I typically tutored students for the Math section, but I am capable of tutoring for the Critical Reading and Writing sections as well.
Some of my other tutoring experiences have been with middle and high school students. I have tutored several students in math, from middle school level general math to high school Calculus I. I have worked with younger students to improve their grammar and writing abilities.
Furthermore, I have had a lot of less formal tutoring experiences with classmates through out my education. For many reasons, I usually do well in my classes and have often been asked to share my knowledge with other students. I think this is one of the best ways to gain skill as a tutor, since you can have a lot of contact with the people you are helping and can see first hand which techniques work well.
Teaching Style
I am a big proponent of the theory of multiple intelligences and believe that each student has certain styles of learning that work best for them. I aim to help students figure out how they learn best. Once they realize where their strengths are, they can incorporate the concept into all of their studies, not just the subject for which I happen to be tutoring them.
