About Me

Experience Summary

I am a Native Arabic and French Speaker. I have spent the last five years teaching Arabic to Non-Arabic speakers at the American University of Sharjah. I have also worked with High school and college students tutoring Math. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and plenty of experience working in Learning centers, with tutoring companies, and privately. I have helped students develop the skills to change their grades from C to B and A.

Teaching Style

The first thing I’d like to first teach my students about Math, Arabic, and French is that they are relevant and fun, so they are in turn interested in learning them, which will make the subject easy to teach, and allow for pleasant engagement of the students and myself. Math and languages require the students to be active participants. I have come to learn that those who attend lectures passively tend to fall behind. While the material can be sometimes overwhelming, one approach I have employed and has led to successful results is setting clear and short-term goals that are achievable but also challenging. With a Masters degree in psychology, I have acquired the skill to better understand nonverbal communication, facial expressions and behaviors, to recognize confusion or uncertainty and address it before proceeding to the next chapter or assignment. Respecting students is a very high priority in my teaching philosophy. Respect them not just as equal human beings but also respect their needs and goals. Majoring in Engineering has helped me understand the importance of, and given me exposure to, the various aspects of Math, which will, in turn, help me select the right material and develop the exercises needed to meet every student’s goals and needs. I also believe in respecting students’ individuality, and understanding that they don’t all respond to the same methods, don’t all come from the same background, and don’t all have the same learning skills. Having lived and worked overseas allows me to bring to my students a good understanding and respect of cultures, and diversity.
