Experience Summary
I have worked as a outreach counselor at Northeast Guidance for almost three years. Also, I worked at Chandler Park Academy as a counselor while also tutoring basic skills in small group settings. While a counselor at Grant Elementary School in Detroit, Michigan, i tutored in an after school program, tutoring math and reading. I was at Grant School for eight years. The children seemed to enjoy the program. We had fun. Before that, I was at Jackson Middle School in Detroit, Michigan, and I was there for eleven years. Before becoming a counselor, I taught math (6-8). Then as a counselor, I had a after school tutoring program which involved parents and students as well as the community. It is my believe that everyone should be involved in the academic as well as the social development of the child. When I began my teaching career, I started as an elementary teacher in a self-contained class, basically the fourth through fifth grade. However, since I worked for Norhteast Guidance, I enjoyed working with the younger children. I had small group sessions and most of the younger children number one request was to learn how to read. WE were involved in many fun activities, and all the children's reading did improve, and they begin to have less discipline problems in class. Also, during my career, I had the opportunity to coordinate a math lab while at the McGregor Elementary School in Detroit, Michigan. McGregor was a K-5th grade school. I serviced the second through 5th grade. They were platoon classes. Each grade level came to the math class a specific amount of days depending on the grade level. The students were afforded the opportunity to participate in hand on activities as well.
