Experience Summary
I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been certified to use the Barton Reading and Spelling System. I have 3 years of experience in teaching grades K and 1 and 1 year of experience in teaching small group instruction in grades K, 4, and 5. I have been tutoring as a Barton Tutor for over a year and have worked with 4 different students. My experience includes students with ADHD, ADD, processing disorders, learning disabilities, and dyslexia.
Teaching Style
I teach using the Barton Reading and Spelling System (an Orton-Gillingham based program). This program teaches students to read and spell phonetically (sounding out words). I use a multi-sensory method (see a word, touch a word, say a word, hear a word), so that the student is completely engaged in the lesson through the use of most of their senses. This program was designed for students with dyslexia and learning disabilities, but would help anyone (child or adult) that struggles with reading and spelling, especially individuals with ADD/ADHD. I have seen quite a great deal of growth in the students I am currently working with and I absolutely love teaching with the Barton System!
