Experience Summary
As an English major in Education at the University of Alabama, I took many specialized courses in writing and reading. I learned many techniques for teaching creative writing and reading comprehension skills. For the past five years I have tutored students in FCAT writes techniques, reading skills and comprehension, and basic mathematics. In my position of Title I teaching assistant I taught small groups (6 or less students) and one-on-one reading, phonics, and comprehension as well as creative writing.
Teaching Style
I absolutely love teaching and working with children. Children learn in unique and individual ways and sometimes struggle in school work because they learn at a different pace than the class as a whole. Individual and small group instruction greatly benefits these children in many ways. They have a chance to ask questions, to deal with specific areas of difficulty and to have better self-esteem when they discover they can learn and master the challenges of reading, writing, and math. Nothing is more fulfilling as a teacher than to see a happy face on a child who has discovered the joy of learning.
