Experience Summary
Hello friends!
I have served as an adjunct biology instructor at Nova Southeastern University since fall 2009, teaching introductory general biology to biology majors & non-majors during the fall & winter of 2009, the fall & winter 2010, & this current fall 2011 semester.
During the winter & spring of 2011 I served as a private, in-home tutor for high school math & reading with the Tutoring in Your Home, LLC, an in-home tutoring company operating out of Ft Lauderdale, Florida.
During the winter & spring of 2008 I developed an on-line course in introductory general biology for Atlantic International University an international, on-line university.
Previously to teaching at Nova Southeastern University, private tutoring, & my work at Atlantic International University, I served as an adjunct biology instructor at Miami-Dade College's Inter-American, North, & Wolfson Campuses, teaching general biology, zoology, & anatomy & physiology laboratories & lectures for both majors & non-majors from the fall of 2002 until the recessionary budget cuts of winter, 2008.
This professional experience, my master's & bachelor's degrees in biology, & continuing education courses in technology, pedagogy, natural science, & educational theory, my passing the Florida State Educators 6 through 12 Biological Sciences Certification Test, my work as a volunteer environmental educator/naturalist at the Monteverde Butterfly Garden in, Monteverde, Costa Rica, during the spring & summer of 2010, & current work as the volunteer Steward of Rare Butterfly Conservation & Reintroduction of Urban Paradise Guild, an environmental, art, & education organization in Butterfly Conservation & Reintroduction of Urban Paradise Guild, an environmental, art, & education organization in South Florida, as a one on one AP environmental science tutor, & a one on one literacy tutor with the Miami-Dade public library system's Project L.E.A.D. will be assets in this position, as will my experience verbally administering tests, & preparing educational materials (e.g. scanning textbooks into Braille, reading textbooks aloud to create audio textbooks) for students with disabilities as an office assistant at Central Missouri State University’s Office of Accessibility services, the organizational, & administrative skills I acquired in that position & as an office assistant for Cox, Stein, & Pettigrew, Co, L.P.A., Attorneys at Law.
&, as volunteer horticulturalist at Columbus Ohio’s Franklin Park Conservatory, Corps Member/Tools & Supplies Coordinator with The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Civilian Conservation Corps, & Volunteer Naturalist at Blacklick Woods Metro Park in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, I began to develop my skills as a field based environmental educator.
The above experience, & my work as a published creative writer & published photographer, has given me a strong background in science, science education, & natural history, strong communication, & research skills, strong creative, leadership, & analytical skills, & experience working with diverse students, colleagues & coworkers will all be an asset when it comesto serving you as a tutor!
Teaching Style
I work closely with the student & his or her parents to to determine the students academic needs & goals, then work with the student, using course materials & additional outside resources (e.g. other book, on-line resources) & an approach which guides the student towards a greater understanding of the subject & encourages broad-based critcal thinking skills by,, for excample, asing the student to find not just the answers to specific questions, but to understand why the answer is what it is through dialouge/question/answer & have the
student find out, interpret information on his or her own.

Bird/wildlife watching, reading, writing, photography, travel, swimming/snorkling.
