Experience Summary
As an educator my passion is helping children become successful learners. I hold both a BS and M.Ed in elementary education with specializations in curriculum & instruction along with early childhood. My life experiences provided opportunities to teach many different age groups, and develop learning experiences that were developmentally appropriate. Teaching K-5 involved general grade level instruction. Additionally, I enjoyed several years of substitute teaching and adjunct instruction for a local university which fit into the schedule of raising my own children. Other training and teaching experiences have involved working with middle and high school students in after school programs and providing various prevention curriculums.
Teaching Style
The joy of teaching is finding interesting, enjoyable methods for children to learn necessary skills & knowledge. I believe all children can be successful learners when their learning style is taken into consideration. Finding ways in which a student can practice particular skills & integrate concepts into activities that are meaningful to them is the enjoyable challenge. The key to this approach is in getting to know the student, adapting the methods by which a student learns and then practices a skill set or knowledge base. I am successful when the student makes the information their own. Parents are a child's first teacher and my partner in helping a child enjoy the success and joy of learning.
