Experience Summary
I tutored programming and math while earning my degree.
I currently work as a substitute teacher at Bellevue Christian School. Last year while subbing at BCS I also worked at Mathnasium. During 2008-2009 I taught an Introduction to Computer Programming class, and a Math-lab class at BCS, as well as working as a sub. I also tutored math and computer programming at the University of Washington – Bothell.
In addition, I have also worked at Lake Washington Technical College, and taught / tutored pre-algebra, algebra, business math, and industrial / technical math, as well as introduction to computer programming fundamentals. At the same time I also tutored C programming at Bellevue (Community) College.
Teaching Style
I believe that most students want to learn and are capable of learning, but math seems to have developed this mystique that one needs to be extra smart to figure it out. I try to encourage students that they are smart enough to do the math, and that they just need to work slowly and thourougly.
I try to show how to apply the process of solving one proble to solving similar problems with the same pattern, and I try to teach showing all steps in problme solving so that those same steps may be applied to the next problem.
