Experience Summary
I am a recent graduate from the University of New Hampshire with a major in Spanish. As a part of my degree, I completed a year-long study abroad program in Granada, Spain, where I not only learned a lot about the Spanish language, but also the culture. I have done some private tutoring in the past for both a high school student and a middle school student. I am looking for a new opportunity to tutor some more students to see if I'd like to teach professionally.
Teaching Style
I believe that everyone can learn a second language, but it takes a lot of practice and dedication. I used to teach the martial arts when I was in high school and have adapted many of the tools I acquired there into my academic theories of teaching, such as; a high degree of patience, the "praise-correct-praise" method, and to lead by example. Everyone learns in a different way; having said that, I believe it is essential to keep your teaching methods well-varied. Repetition can lead to boredom and a lack of interest. It is important when working with students to not only work out of school workbooks, but to also practice on conversational abilities through listening to songs and verbal exercises.
