Experience Summary
I have worked as a teacher on the Big Island, and spent over ten years as a volunteer trainer at public access television facilities in New York and Texas. I am currently seeking tutoring work as I complete the last year of my online "masters in elementary education" program.
I have a bachelors in Psychology, and twenty years of working experience, 5 in supervisory positions. I can teach elementary and high school level work. In the past I have taught primarily science, media and reading/writing. I am current on modern tutoring methods and practices.
Teaching Style
I believe that once a student can enjoy the process of learning they can begin to internalize the good study habits required for academic success. I use a constructivist teaching method and often use Socratic teaching as a means to have students thinking independently about their work. I am also interested in learning how each student learns so as to get the best results. I believe I'm a natural teacher, enthusiastic, intelligent, and an unusual memory for detail. I enjoy creating interesting contexts for students to learn from, and the intuition to know when a student is making progress. Each student deserves a teacher’s very best, and I intend to know the needs of each student well and prepare myself for maximum efficiency.
