Experience Summary
Through seven years’ English-teaching experience in the United States and abroad, I have worked with students of diverse backgrounds. I have taught English composition to Chinese college students, tutored expatriate European and Latin American businesspersons, and conducted ESL classes for adults of many ethnic origins. Throughout these experiences, my background of study in British and American literature has been a source of enrichment for my students. This background and experience make me eager to help prepare learners in the Atlanta area for full participation in their respective academic and professional fields. Quite simply, I want to see learners succeed.
Teaching Style
I am a conscientious, creative, and dedicated teacher who takes learners' goals seriously. My teaching approach unites practice in real-life language tasks (i.e., interviewing for a job) with attention to accurate language forms (i.e., grammar and vocabulary). Learners who are motivated to communicate, I believe, will develop facility in language; thus, part of my role is to provide learners with richly engaging, varied, and realistic communicative tasks. My students have experienced success in reaching narrowly focused objectives, such as achievement on standardized tests like the TOEFL, as well as in reaching broader goals, such as increased facility in reading.
