Experience Summary
As a graduate in special education, with emphasis in speech and hearing, I helped students improve language skills and articulation deficiencies. I used their curriculum and texts. I then obtained my master's degree in Special Education - Mild/Moderate Disabilities, and certification in Elementary Education. I worked with students who were general ed and special needs. For the last 10 years I have taught middle school level, except for teaching a 2nd grade class for one year, and acting as speech therapist for grades K-6. I am highly creative, driven, patient, and motivational. I have taught in the private school sector, a clinical setting, as well as public schools for twenty years.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is based largely on the priority academic student skills for Oklahoma. I have used Alpha Plus, Study Island, Destination Success by Riverside, Literacy First, You Can Learn, and Buckle Down software and written materials. I utilize several self motivating materials. I teach them how to acquire relevant data, how to retain it,and retrieve prior knowledge. My strength, is giving students a sense of pride, accomplishment, and building their self esteem. I have a great deal of patience with children who want to avoid learning. I have never taught a child that has not made their impact in my own life.
