Experience Summary
As a graduate of the California State University system, I have received a top-notch education from respected professors. I have earned undergraduate and graduate degrees, a bachelor’s in Recreation and master’s in English. As a tutor and teacher since the mid-1980s, I have instructed students, native-born and foreign, from elementary grades through adult learners, in English grammar and punctuation, essay-writing and American literature. In addition, I have real-world expertise in the work force relative to research and business communication, orally and written.
Teaching Style
I have taught and tutored youth and adults of culturally, linguistically and racially diverse backgrounds for years. Integrating my students’ experiences with writing assignments is an effective approach in teaching. I always treat students with dignity. This puts them at ease. Students’ comfort is a crucial factor in the learning experience. I also know how to analyze students’ diverse educational expectations. To this end, my honesty with them has been a useful approach. This has helped me to match students with the best learning methods and materials.
