Experience Summary
After receiving my BA and MA in English, I continued my education to get certification in postsecondary education as well as to receive licensure to substitute teach in Minnesota. I have been a substitute teacher for two years, and I have been with students ages 4 through 18. In addition, I was a teaching assistant for an interpersonal communication class at a college in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. My education and experiences have given me the opportunity to use my grammatical skills in written and oral forms, as well as afforded me the opportunity to refine different teaching methodologies.
Teaching Style
I view education as an on-going conversation. I bring more knowledge and experience to the table, but the learner also brings experience that can be applicable to material. I introduce new material with passion in the hopes the student can understand and capture a similar passion for knowledge. I like to incorporate activities, small group work, class discussion, video clips, and games - pretty much anything to help me make it interesting and applicable to the "real" world.
