Experience Summary
I have a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated in 1986. I am also a former officer in the North Carolina Army National Guard. For the last 12 years I have been in the business world, and that is where I have used my degree the most. I bring to the table real world English skills. On average, I produced 8 β 10 written documents per month that my employees used as their guide in the performance of their duties, each tailored to a specific situation. Some very detailed, some not so detailed. To produce these documents, I read approximately 3 other documents along with my job experience.
Teaching Style
My teaching style I would describe two-fold: First, my military background taught me their three step process; tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them and my own personal style which is a hybrid of the discovery method and guided question and answer. I have always been a firm believer in that there are no dumb or silly questions. If a child or an adult has a question, there is a reason for that question and it deserves the best answer possible. Some questions will be easily answered and some will require work, possibly on both parts, and that it why itβs called the learning process.
