Experience Summary
After earning my BS in Elementary Education at Western Carolina, I became a tutor, part time assistant in Jackson County Schools (as an assistant in two ESL classrooms-one at a high school level and in an elementary/middle school classroom) and as a Lowes Sales Associate part time. I later became a fifth grade teacher at Cherokee Elementary on the Reservation. This is my third year teaching fifth grade and my responsibilities include tutoring three days a week after school in reading and math, teaching full time all subjects including science, training for EOG administration and continuously attending workshops to gain skills pertaining to my profession.
Teaching Style
My beliefs are that all children can learn, however, they must learn at their own pace and in their own way. This may mean being extremely patient and empathetic, not sympathetic, to their needs and using their strengths to build confidence while using their weaknesses to set goals. Blooms taxonomy is essential to use for setting standards and assessment of student learning. I apply this to my teaching methods as much as possible along with using hands on experiences to build student interest.
I am available evenings and weekends for tutoring. I am very patient and easy going but firm. I hope to provide a comfortable tutoring session in which the student gains confidence in order to succeed in the future!
