Experience Summary
Last summer I taught pre-algebra to middle school students, and this summer I taught general math to elementary school students. I like working with kids since they are energetic. Even though some of them don't like the subject, once they were given enough personal attention, assistance, and encouragement, they could improve.
Also, last year I had been a tutor during the study of my master's degree in Statistics. I tutored mathematics to undergraduate disabled students. In contrast to classroom teaching, I can pay personal attention to students during tutoring. And because of the allowance of time, I can try different ways of explanation until students' problems are solved.
Teaching Style
In general, for math I believe teaching step by step in systematic way is helpful for students to grab the concepts. Then help students to relate the concepts is also important.
And as a tutor, being patient and flexible in teaching methods are essential. I am patient to repeat and often give continuous encouragement when students struggle. Also, since different students learn differently, so sometimes even for the same concept, I am flexible in different ways of explanation.
And in the beginning of each tutoring session, I first come up with an outline of all the topics to be covered with the approximate time needed, so I can use time most efficiently.
