Experience Summary
I currently have two degrees: a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Global Studies. In pursuing these degrees I have gained knowledge in various fields including biology, math, chemistry, global politics and economics, Spanish language and culture, and history. Additionally, I have worked for the past three years at a summer camp where I was the Art instructor for children ages 6 to 16; as such I have experience interacting with children of all ages. Finally, for the past two summers I have travelled to Kenya and Peru to work with underprivileged children - these experiences have made me comfortable working with children from all different backgrounds and have taught me the value of education worldwide.
Teaching Style
My teaching style emphasizes the differences between children, especially with regards to learning styles. Different children comprehend and understand in unique ways - while one may understand best from tactile or visual demonstrations, others learn best simply by hearing. Even within the same student, certain concepts are best understood in atypical ways. I firmly believe that as an educator, my job is to be flexible and creative in devising appropriate teaching methods for each child - what works for one will not always work for another. The most effective teaching comes from understanding this, and tailoring specific approaches to each individual student's needs.
