Experience Summary
I worked as a pre-school teacher for 5 1/2 years. During my last year I trained with Dr. Donald Lyman and developed a program for PK through 1st grade,and ran an after school tutoring program. I was so impressed with the results that I went to work for Dr. Lyman for the next nine years. For the first 5 years I worked with students 1-12 grade teaching all core subjects, at Alliance Academy. His wife then purchased Baldwin Oaks Academy, I worked in a multi-age classroom for students 4-8th grade from 2005-07. My last year there I taught a 1-3rd grade class. I left BOA because I felt that a Montessori environment, where you have the same students for three years, was not enough of a challenge for me.
Teaching Style
I like to assess my students and then come up with a plan that uses their strengths and interests to help them achieve their academic and social goals. Before you can teach a child you need to understand their temperament and gain their trust. I believe all children want to learn and can learn when the materials are presented in their learning style. I will use whatever it takes to reach a student; manipulatives, music, movement. My teaching style is very flexible and I will adjust my lesson to suit the student.
