Experience Summary
I have been tutoring students at the Northwest Alachua County Boys and Girls Club, and similar sites, for 4 years. I have received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (k-6) and my Master's in Special Education at the University of Florida. I have had experience teaching reading and math to students in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and fourth grade, as well as tutoring all grades (k-6) in reading and math.
I love teaching and tutoring students of all ages while making what they are learning meaningful and applicable to their lives.
Teaching Style
I think in order to truly learn students need to be in control of what they are learning and have as many hands on experiences as possible. It is best to teach students how to learn, so that they continue to be life-long learners. I also believe that students need to be given choices in regards to their learning so that they learn how to make responsible decisions. It is up to me as the teacher to help inspire students to want to learn and help them see the rewards of their work.
Each student is different, and it is up to the teacher to figure out what that student needs to be a successful learner. I love using learning strategies and hands-on methods to help students understand difficult material.
