Experience Summary
As a graduate, with a BA in Sociology and a GPA of 3.97, my biggest accomplishments during my matriculation are they ways I served others. As President of two organizations, one the International Sociological Honor Society and a member of other service organizations, including the Americorps Mentoring and Tutoring Alliance, I was able to develop and participate in various programs that promote social growth and change, especially in the area of education. I am now, pursing a MS in Leadership. My experience includes tutoring in traditional areas such as Reading, Math, Social Studies, English; however, through my profession as a Case Manager, it also includes teaching safety planning, Domestic Violence Education and empowerment.
Teaching Style
Based on empowerment and flexibility, I begin by learning my student’s strengths, weaknesses, learning style and his or her goals. Their strengths are used as a tool of empowerment and their weaknesses establish what challenges exist. Flexible due to the differences in learning, I model my teaching style in accordance with the learning style of my student; this helps to increase the level of the student’s progress and decrease the time frame needed to begin seeing positive results. Through learning the student’s goals, I am able to help them feel empowered every time there is a positive result and have them feel accountable when there is not. I am also able to help them expand on their goals and possibly create new ones.
