Experience Summary
I have served as an orientation counselor to incoming freshmen students, have tutored undergraduates with special needs, have taught undergraduate level university courses both in the classroom and online, have taught drug safety classes in 22 different elementary schools to grades k-2, and have taught adult business English to adult nuclear power employees in Europe.
I am experienced in working with diverse cultures: I have served as a teacher of international college and adult education students as a university lecturer and a private language trainer.
Finally, I volunteer in my community, love to serve as a teacher, and hope to see the light turn on inside the heads of my students as they realize their potential and opportunities.
Teaching Style
In John Dewey’s spirit, I would say that education occurs when an individual is stimulated by the social situations in which he finds himself, that the materials of education consist of the physical, moral, and intellectual resources that humanity has gathered together up to now, and that the product of education should be a person who has developed actions and feelings that promote and represent the welfare of the group to which he belongs. In that vein, a school should be primarily a social institution where a conglomerate of these resources are located and shared; however, education is a life-long process that can occur almost anywhere. I also highly respect the book "Teaching in the Tao" by Patrick Christie.
