Experience Summary
For the last two years I have worked as a tutor with elementary aged children on phonemic awareness, comprehension, improving analytical ability, and basic math skills. While teaching and tutoring, I incorporate the child's prior knowledge while introducing new concepts through hands-on, child centered curriculum. I develop tricks, with help from the child, which will help them retain the information learned.
During the day, I am an elementary substitute teacher. Prior to getting my degree, I was a preschool teacher and nanny.
Teaching Style
I believe that every child is an individual with a distinctive story. Embracing such stories, I will make a profound difference on my students. Validating students’ abilities, experiences, and interests creates a trusting atmosphere. My role as teacher is to guide my students into authentic learning. For students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves practical skills. Every child has the ability to take control of their learning by thinking, reading, and writing critically. I believe it is important to employ a variety of delivery methods, using methods that incorporate all intelligences and learning abilities while let the students natural abilities shine.
