Experience Summary
For over five years I taught Sunday school for children ages six to ten. I believe the ability to explain to a taxpayer the process of determining his/her refund and/or tax liability and their ability to understand demonstrates some teaching ability. It is rewarding to be told that no one has ever explained the process to them in such simplistic and understanding manner. I have done this for over 20 years.
During three of my five tax seasons working for a major tax franchise, I taught a ten-week tax course and a one-week rapid tax course. As an independent contractor I also taught a few of my bookkeeping and tax clients how to use bookkeeping software. I have often been complimented for being a patient and knowledgeable teacher.
Teaching Style
I feel that helping someone understand how to do something is sometimes more rewarding to me than to them. It demonstrates that I have the ability to explain in a manner they can relate to.
I would describe my teaching style as a combination of teaching and interacting. I realize that getting the person involved keeps them interested. Tutoring is not for those already proficient in a subject, but for those who need to bring their subject skills up to a certain level. I use creative ways of saying and doing things. I feel it's important that the subject is learned not just memorized. Believing that everyone has the potential to learn something new, patience and creativity are the keys to helping anyone who wants to learn.
